Contact UsElder abuse is a widespread yet often hidden issue. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1 in 6 adults over age 60 experience abuse in nursing homes or community settings—yet only 1 in 24 cases are reported. This alarming underreporting highlights a critical gap in awareness and response. This toolkit was designed to empower caregivers to recognize signs of abuse, ask the right questions, and respond with confidence. After personally witnessing elder abuse in care facilities, Shaanvhi developed this resource with guidance from Ms. Manson-Hing, an aging and brain health specialist. As of today, caregivers across 11 states use this tool to better protect their loved ones.
Reminiscence therapy uses familiar images, objects, and activities to spark memory and encourage communication in individuals with dementia. Our reminiscence kits are themed collections of sensory items designed to help individuals reconnect with their past in an engaging way. Each kit centers around a different topic, allowing caregivers to check-out kits that align with their loved one’s interests. Currently, Eastern Shore Public Library offers these kits to the community, and several other libraries have expressed interest in our program.
While volunteering in hospice, Shaanvhi noticed how one patient with dementia found comfort in tracing his fingers over old family photos. Seeing how powerful pictures are in helping patients hold on to their loved ones inspired the creation of our personalized memory book initiative. These custom books allow patients to reconnect with their identities, especially in nursing home environments that can feel foreign and isolating. This initiative is being implemented at Shaanvhi’s hospice and continues to grow.
We believe education is essential to building a dementia-friendly society. We host interactive booths at elementary schools, where students create pipe-cleaner model neurons while learning about basic neuroscience concepts. By introducing neuroscience early, we hope to inspire curiosity and awareness about brain health.
Humans are inherently social, yet many older adults experience increasing loneliness and social isolation as they age. Social isolation is associated with higher risks of cognitive decline, depression, and heart disease. Bridging Generations is a volunteer program that connects students with nursing home residents. By fostering intergenerational relationships, this program combats isolation while teaching students empathy and communication.Interested in joining us for our next visit?
